Ira S. Lipsius has specialized, exclusively, in insurance coverage and insurance regulatory law for over 40 years. As a seasoned litigator, Mr. Lipsius has argued before 9 of the 13 Federal Courts of Appeals and has argued or tried cases before state courts in over 30 states and before United States District Courts in over 20 states. Many major decisions in the field of property and casualty insurance, life insurance and life settlement have been argued by Mr. Lipsius. He has participated in cases resulting in in excess of 200 published decisions relating to insurance and has provided counsel to over 1,000 insurers, policy holders, insurance brokers and agents, government agencies, and attorneys.

 

Mr. Lipsius also serves as a consultant to insurers, reinsurers, industry organizations and investors in insurance products. 

 

Mr. Lipsius has been retained as an expert witness in the field of insurance and has testified on behalf of the United States Department of Justice on the issue of insurance underwriting fraud.

 

He has lectured widely in the industry. Over ten thousand insurance professionals have attended his lectures. For many years he taught at the University of Connecticut School of Law on the subject of insurance law.

Mr. Lipsius began his legal career in 1977 with Schindel and Cooper (which eventually became Schindel, Farman, Lipsius, Gardner and Rabinovich), a firm that specialized in insurance coverage. In 2011, after 34 years with that firm, he left and established the law firm of Lipsius-BenHaim Law LLP.

Mr. Lipsius was associated with Central Analysis Bureau, Inc., for 43 years and was its President for the past 20 years until its acquisition by Randal Reilly in 2021.
